Food distribution by the Fargo Faith Food Pantry will take place on Friday, December 9th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church located at 909 19th Avenue North, Fargo. If you are in a situation where you are food insecure and need help feeding yourself or your family, please come by on December 9th.
FAITH FOOD PANTRY
Every second and fourth Friday of the month, volunteers from Fargo Faith and other area churches come together to provide groceries for needy families in the Fargo-Moorhead area. On a typical Friday, the Fargo Faith Food Ministry will serve approximately 100 people.
The mission of the Fargo Faith Food Pantry is to help the less fortunate by distributing food to lessen their financial burden of a grocery bill.
Faith Food Pantry is funded by food or cash donations, grants, Fill the Dome food and the Great Plains Food Bank.
FOR CLIENTS
Any person who is need of food to feed themselves or their families and cannot afford to do so are invited to receive food from the Faith Food Pantry. We distribute food on the second and fourth Fridays of each month from 1-3 p.m. All that we require is a photo ID. This form is to verify your identity and the size of your family. Other than this form, no referrals are required and we will never ask any questions about your situation- all those who are in need of food are welcome. Clients are welcome to receive food both Fridays in the month if necessary.
You may park in our lot and come to the west door to receive your food cart. You will then take your cart of food to your vehicle and load your vehicle. Once you complete that, you will return the cart to the north kitchen door.
FOR VOLUNTEERS
Where:
Fargo Faith United Methodist Church at 909 19th Ave. N., Fargo ND. The pantry itself is not tied to any religion; this is just the building where it is held. Our volunteers come from many denominations/religions.
Days:
Second and fourth Friday each of month.
What happens:
9:30 through 3:00 volunteers are needed for part or all of this time. Come for a short time or the entire day.
9:30 one or more pickup loads of food arrive and need to be unloaded and put into place.
After the foods are unloaded, volunteers’ bag them by type such as canned goods. Signs are on the items to tell you how many to put in each bag. Usually, we prepare about 100 bags of each type of food. Another task at this time is “fluffing bags” (opening, straightening, and counting recycled grocery bags).
11:00 lunch is served for all volunteers. It is prepared by one or more of the volunteers.
11:30-12:00 the food rescue truck arrives with meat, produce, dairy, bakery and deli items and needs to be unloaded and put into place. Then bagging of those different types of food occurs.
1:00-3:00 grocery carts of food are distributed to help fill hungry tummies. Volunteers are needed to push grocery carts and put the bagged items into the carts.
A line of recipients forms outside. The recipients register with volunteers near the door. The volunteers use computers to register the recipients. After a person is registered, they receive a grocery cart which they then push to their car, unload it and return it to a different Church door. The grocery cart usually contains bags of meat, produce & deli, canned goods, dairy, a baked item(s) such as bread and/or a sweet. Sometimes additional items are included such as a box of pasta or cereal.
You are welcome to come and volunteer for part or all of this time!
